Ho fue fundador y presidente de SJM Holdings y uno de los hombres más ricos de Asia durante décadas. Su fortuna personal se estimaba en unos 6.400 millones de dólares en 2018, año en que se retiró poco antes de cumplir 97 años.
El empresario tuvo 17 hijos con cuatro mujeres.
La revista Fortune define al occiso como "el Rey del Juego" y "un antiguo comerciante de queroseno que construyó un imperio de casinos en Macao y convirtió esta isla china en el centro de juegos más grande del mundo después de Las Vegas".
La compañía que fundó tras adjudicarse el monopolio del juego en 1961, floreció cuando la apertura económica de China generó una avalancha de nuevos ricos apasionados por los juegos de azar.

Hoy en día, SJM Holdings Limited (por las siglas de Sociedade de Jogos de Macau) es una de las seis compañías autorizadas para operar los juegos de azar en los casinos de Maco bajo una concesión otorgada en 2002.
